THE FOUNDATION COURSE is designed to equip you with the necessary skills to relax your recipient, boost their energy level, and invigorate their blood and lymphatic circulation.
PRACTICAL TECHNIQUE
Principles of technique application
How to use palms, fingers, thumbs, forearms, elbows, knees and feet; correct use of body weight; how to offer maximum support and connection; and how to maintain a fluent continuity of technique.
Methods to tonify, calm or disperse Ki
Including the kyo/jitsu method.
Technique sequences in face down, face up and side positions
Presenting a simple, safe, full body routine which can be applied immediately to family and friends.
Regular practical feedback and evaluation
One to one feedback on your technique.
THEORY
Introduction to Ki (Qi), meridians (channels), and tsubos (pressure points)An explanation of what Ki is and how it circulates; with an overview of the channels through which Ki flows; plus a description of what constitutes a tsubo (pressure point).
Tao, and Yin / Yang theory
A thorough explanation of 'energy' and nature in relation to humans, according to oriental medicine and philosophy.
The Five Elements
The interaction between the basic 'Elements' of nature: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal. How to relate this to physical and emotional disharmonies.
Anatomy
Bones and joints, plus and introduction to muscle location and function.
General contra-indications
Circumstances when Shiatsu should not be applied.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND KI ENHANCEMENT
QigongSpecific exercises to develop your internal vitality and enhance your sensitivity to Ki.
Do-in
A system of self-applied Shiatsu and exercise for treating yourself and for recommendation to others (also known as Daoyinn).
